Something that came up in conversation today...
We'd both spend our time writing poems for people, for special occasions and such like, whereas now... We are writing because we can. For no one in particular, we write to please no one but ourselves. If it helps someone, comforts them, or informs them of something they need to know... Great. but it's not always for them.
